Youth from Lewes, Delaware, visit New Mexico, Arizona, and West Virginia

Summer of 2010:
Both trips featured in videos

It was not your typical stockholders’ meeting. The dividends were priceless.

St. Peter’s Youth (SPY) group held a dinner meeting to report on their summer trips, which were supported in large part by congregation members who bought $25 shares of stock to support their summer trips. The meeting gave the youth a chance to thank their supporters, show them videos of the trips, and answer their questions. The first trip was a pilgrimage, the second was a mission work-camp run by World Vision.

High School Pilgrimage to
New Mexico and Arizona

The high school SPY group took a pilgrimage to New Mexico and Arizona where they visited Navajo and Hopi lands. They heard other stories of creation and other ways of finding beauty, harmony and balance in living. Camping in tents along their way, some of the sites they visited are Bluewater Lake State Park, Chaco Canyon, Bowl Canyon, and Canyon de Chelly.

Father Mark Harris sums up the trip by saying “This gang of ocean-side dwellers was amazed, confounded and delighted by the high plains and higher mountains of the Southwest, by the Navajo and Hopi people they met, by the new sense of value they found in simple living, and by the friendships formed among the group.” Click here to see the video on Facebook.

Middle School Mission Camp
to West Virginia

The middle school SPY group participated in a mission work camp organized by World Vision at their work site in Philippi, West Virginia. Rebuilding a bedroom for a girl their age was one of the main projects. Under the supervision of World Vision foremen, they helped take the room from demo to drywall. As school was just about to start when they were in West Virginia, one day the youth helped to hand out fully-supplied backpacks to area schoolchildren. Of this trip, Harris says, “We worked hard all week, did some on-the-ground good, met wonderful people, and learned a lot.” Click here to see the video on Facebook.
