St. Thomas' Youth Score Big for Charity
by Karen Krauss

The Youth at St. Thomas's Parish continue with their community service in the Greater Newark area. On June 21, they participated in the 12th Annual Emmaus House Bowl-A-Thon Fundraiser at Prices Lanes in Wilmington.
Bowler Mariah Payne said, " I joined the Bowl-A-Thon team because I wanted to help Emmaus House and because I love bowling. Bowling is so much fun." Josh Turner agreed, "I think that the bowl-a-thon was, to put it in one word, amazing. I mean, so what if I'm a horrible bowler, I still had a lot of fun. To be honest, I was expecting just to go bowling. I was wrong. It was the most fun two hours I've had in awhile. The food was great, too."
Located in Newark, Emmaus House is run by Homeward Bound, Inc., which provides emergency shelter, programs, and support for families with children in crisis. Thanks to ongoing prayers and response from a very generous community, Emmaus House was able to meet its fund-raising goal once again and will continue helping resident families obtain permanent housing. The bowling team and their supporters had a great time and some of St. Thomas's bowlers even scored strikes while supporting this worthwhile cause.
In July, several of St. Thomas's Youth also volunteered at the Food Bank of Delaware packing lunches for local community centers. Their summer was a perfect blend of fun and service to God and the community.
